Stop Avoiding Yourself!

How we do anything is how we do everything.

If you avoid, ignore, disrespect, and demean the real you, it impacts far more than your self-esteem (though it’s not great for that either). It creates an unfulfilled life of shame and exhaustion that affects everything – including your career, sense of self, and relationships. With that said, here are the three key ways avoiding the real you is currently impacting your life:

1. It’s preventing you from fulfilling your purpose. You cannot fulfill your purpose here on earth if you’re not being your authentic self. That is the absolute truth. Your purpose is discovered when you’re honoring the real you – not hiding from it.

2. It’s wasting energy. If you’re one person at the office and with your family, and a completely different person with your friends, you’re wasting valuable energy by leading two separate lives. Imagine the good you could accomplish with the energy you’ll free up simply by being the real you in every situation. 

3. It’s teaching others to disrespect you. We teach people how to treat us. If we respect, love, and accept ourselves, others will too. However, if we treat ourselves with disrespect and hatred, the people in our lives will respond to us in kind.

It may be a cliché, but we really do only get this one life. Don’t waste yours denying the real you. There’s a reason you were born the way you are. As difficult as it may be, I encourage you to embrace your authentic self, so you can discover your true purpose and have the impact you’re meant to have on this world.
